At first glance, one would see the obvious likeness of the devices such as their giveaway prices, amazing cameras and their Android update and so on. However, let us dig deeper and find out the difference between the two so as to make it easy for you to decide which one exactly to buy.

Nexus 5X is generally a big phone compared to contemporaries in the industry. Its dimensions measure 147mm x 72.9 mm x 7.9 mm and weighs 136g quite light for its size. It has a screen of 5.2” with FHD and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 423 pixels per inch. Its LCD screen is protected by Corning Glass 3 along with a foolproof fingerprint and smudge resistant oleophobic coating.

Nexus 6P on the other hand is even bigger with dimensions of 159.3mm x 77.8mm x 7.3 mm, weighing 178g. Though the device weighs more than Nexus 5X, it is the slimmer too. Its screen space comes at an aspect ratio of 16:9 and is larger at 5.7” with WQHD resolution to the tune of 2560 x 1440 and 518 ppi. It uses AMOLED display tech and not LCD as Nexus 5X. The device has Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protected screen with fingerprint and smudge resistant oleophobic coating as well.

Frame and Body

While Nexus 5X is made from polycarbonate, Google claims Nexus 6P to be an all metal smartphone made out of ‘aeronautical grade aluminium’ the main reason for its slimmer look.

Nexus 5X has a 1.8 GHz hexa core chipset with Snapdragon 808 processor. It uses Adreno 418 GPU and a 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM. Nexus 6P seems to be a better version with 2.0 GHz Octa core chipset and Sanpdragon 810 v2.1 processor. It uses Adreno 430 GPU with a 3 GB LPDDR4 RAM. Without saying it goes that ^P is quite a winner here.

Nexus 5X comes with a storage of 16 GB and 32 GB only where as Nexus 6P starts with an internal storage capacity of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128GB, which seems to be a first of its kind with such a huge storage option.

Surprisingly, both the devices are equipped with almost similar features when it comes to camera

Device Rear Camera Front Camera
Nexus 5X 12.3 MP, f2.0 aperture, laser autofocus, 4K video recording 5 MP, f2.0 aperture, 1080 p video recording
Nexus 6P 12.3 MP, f2.0 aperture. Laser autofocus, 4K video recording 8MP,f2.4 aperture, 1080 p video recording

Google has announced of knowingly omitting the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) since the increase in micron size would enable taking in light that would be equal to that when OIS in present. They are confident that Nexus would surely do better than iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 plus where taking photos in low light density is concerned.

However, this still remains to be proven because till date it is a known fact that OIS plays a key role in shooting a smooth video.

Nexus 6P is equipped with 3,450 mAH battery and if you go with the Google claims, it would work for 7 hours with 10 minutes of charging. Battery f Nexus 5X comes with 2,700 mAh battery and is said to work for 4 hours when charged for 10 minutes. The added feature here is the ‘DOZE’ mode, which enables the phone to shutdown when not in use for some time.

There is a change in the charger too; Google has come up with a Type C USB charging rather than the now-in-use micro USB.

Nexus 6P is priced at $499, $549 and $649 for 32 GB, 64 GB and 128GB respectively, while Nexus 5X is priced at $ 379 and $ 429 for their 16 GB and 32 GB devices.

These price ranges obviously are going to make Nexus 5X a tough competitor to latest Motorola entrants, and Nexus 6P would be competing with iPhone 6S plus which has a far lower storage of 16GB compared to 128 GB of Nexus.
