Lack of Protection of Intellectual Property to Affect Investment and Employment

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, abbreviated as ASSOCHAM, last week claimed that lack of protection of intellectual property in inventions related to computer will have a direct effect on job opportunities and investment in the information, communication, and technology industry.

Lack of Protection of Intellectual Property to Affect Investment and Employment

“The lack of protection of intellectual property in inventions related to computer will not only impact jobs and job growth but also have a direct impact on investment in the information, communication and technology industry,” claimed D.S. Rawat, General Secretary, ASSOCHAM. “If India needs to be the foremost global player in development and research as well as software products, it is very important that protection of intellectual property is made obtainable along with global principles.”

ASSOCHAM advised Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, to bring about suitable alterations to the current guidelines for inventions related to computer that have resulted to an unpredictable and instable environment in the Indian information, communication, and technology industry. “The guidelines for inventions related to computer have forbidden the patenting of inventions related to computer until a ‘new hardware’ is also made-up, therefore effecting the whole information, communication, and technology sector and related sectors that add hugely to gross domestic product of India and make important employment,” ASSOCHAM claimed in a letter addressed to the Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.

ASSOCHAM suggested patenting of the lately introduced BHIM-Adhaar app, indicating that the current guidelines for inventions related to computer do not maintain objectives of different government schemes that are introduced. The letter declared that the involvement of the industrial sector to gross domestic product of India is close to 25% and this is all practical research utilizing unshakable mathematical formulae, scientific principles, and algorithms to investigate into its sensible application in industrial sector. On the other hand, the guidelines for inventions related to computer place total constraint on patenting of the same.

Therefore, the whole 25% of its involvement to the gross domestic product of India is at risk owing to the current scenario with reference to guidelines for inventions related to computer, noted the ASSOCHAM letter.
