Indian employees are stepping in and taking an initiative to enlighten the government regarding the poor payment and no hike in the IT sector. They also want the government to look into the matter of long resignation period compelled by the companies on their employees. Taking into consideration the three-month long non-negotiable notice period the IT employees have come up with an online petition in order to let the ministry of labor take a step to stop this contained IT company norms. The petition is gaining momentum owing to the support lent by the WhatsApp groups and other messaging platforms.
As mentioned in the petition, “It’s very uncertain for the employees to take the future decision or resign in advance without knowing what’s going to happen in the next three months.”
There are a number of companies such as Capgemini, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, TCS, IBM, HCL Technologies, Accenture, Quick Heal, and many others following the three-month notice period. This period is considered to be a mere exploitation by the employees because if they are planning to switch their jobs, the next company is not ready to wait so long rendering them jobless for months.
According to the Human Resources, the notice period is just a company’s way of combating high attrition rates. The notice period doesn’t even permit the HRs to hire new employees owing to the clause. It’s a way the company follows in order to not lose money till it finds a suitable employee; just call it a billable resource.
Speaking of the three-month notice period, the IT employers say that, “The skilled employees are hard to replace hence, are either convinced to stay or complete the notice period till a suitable replacement is found. On the other hand, the not good in their skills are set to leave any time the company decides. The notice period is flexible in terms of personal issues when the project has minimal impact and it also encourages a standard professional handover.”
“Are the Indian techies on the right path?” is a question which only the future can answer.###
