Reliance Jio Infocomm gathered as many as 4.3 Million active users in June, stealing the lead over the 3 largest current telecom companies Vodafone India, Bharti Airtel, and Idea Cellular. The combined numbers of these 3 companies during the same period stood at an unpretentious 1.3 Million, claimed experts. This data was given by unnamed sources to the media.
“The leading 3 companies’ active user net additions dropped down from 5.1 Million net additions in the last 6 Months to 1.3 Million in June,” ICICI Securities claimed to the media. It also analyzed user data for June posted out by the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India). The 4.3 Million active user additions f Jio, as per VLR or Visitor Location Register data in June, was well under the 8.7 Million active user additions posted in May. This indicated a slowing, which the firm earlier credited to the restricted volume of 4G handsets in the market. The VLR is an important metric representing the real number of users on a network actively utilizing mobile services.
The active user base of the company soared to 93 Million in June, aiding the Mukesh Ambani-led telecom company steadily rise its market share of active user by 40 basis points (0.4% points) from 8.7% to 9.1% in May. On the other hand, the month-on-month gain of Bharti Airtel was a modest 3 basis points in market share of active user in June, whereas Idea and Vodafone India lost 2 basis points and 9 basis points on this metric respectively.
A research firm claimed that proportion of active user of Jio stayed higher in category C and B circles as compared to the A circles or metros. Experts at ICICI Securities supported this view, claiming active subscriber base of Jio in Category A circles and important metros was only 75% and 67.9% of its entire users, respectively. Active users of Jio in Mumbai, Delhi, and Andhra Pradesh, it claimed, contributed for 68%, 67%, and 75% of its total users in these markets, respectively. Its active users share in Maharashtra circle, on the other hand, was superior at 85%.
