It has been two years since India elected Narendra Modi as a Prime Minister. Many think that it has made things good while some are still criticizing it. For those who are criticizing the Modi government, he says that what he has achieved in the country would have been difficult in the previous circumstances and governance. He also added that he has made maximum reforms that he could have taken. This was said during an interview to the Wall Street Journal who claimed that he has not made some big bang reforms to which Modi replied saying that he has indeed made some huge reforms and the has a lot of work to do in the future as well.
Explaining more about how he has been in charge and taken up things, Modi says that he has opened up our economy to foreign investment and made huge changes to check that corruption doesn’t seeps in. He also mentioned that he has filled gaps in the rural infrastructure and has also made it very easy to do business.
Recently, the Goods and Services tax bill was also brought up by the Modi government which will make doing business very easy as well as replace many taxes. But the bill is still stuck at the Rajya Sabha where the government is in minority. If the bill passes, it will be a huge advancement for the country.
This interview was conducted because Narendra Modi will be visiting Washington in the next month to meet President Obama for the U.S congress. Modi says, “President Obama had sent me a request in March and later when we met at the nuclear summit, he personally requested me to visit US”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi came into power in 2014 after defeating the long standing Congress party in India.
